My everyday hair tutorial.

Good Evening!
Whilst I rest on this Saturday night, as promised I've put together a small selection of pictures & tutorial for my daytime 1940s hairstyle. I hope this is some help for some of you that have asked. This is purely my way of doing this hairstyle yet everyone's hair reacts to different treatments/ways of rolling.
Here below is how I usually like to wear my hair. I like this style because it can fit into a daytime or night time look - it also can look great with the curls left in or brushed out.
Word of warning - please excuse the quality of the pictures. I always roll my hair quite late at night and another note a few pictures down I'm wearing no lipstick (ah)! ..

Step 1: Wash hair and blow dry - it's fine to let it naturally dry also. Apply a mousse or setting lotion to help the curl stay longer. Make sure hair is tangle free and in a centre parting.

Step 2: Prepare your rollers - for this current style as my hair has grown I use the largest roller. I use round 16 of these large rollers but don't worry if you run out and have to use the size down. As you may know I like to use bendy rollers as they're much comfier to sleep in.

Step 3: I take around an inch section of hair for each roller and start at the front. Roll downwards and attach. Do the same for each section of hair.

Step 4: Follow this pattern from the front to back - do the same to the sides of the hair also. If you find you have smaller pieces of hair left over especially at the sides and back, just pop in a medium sized roller. It's okay to take your time! When all sections are rolled, just spray a little hairspray & pop on a headscarf - then sleep (or not)!

Step 5: So you have woken up and you're ready to take out your rollers! Take all rollers out carefully, you may start to think that your curls look a little silly but don't fret it gets better! When all rollers are out, find a small tail comb if possible and part your hair to preferred parting - i like the side parting! When hair is parted start to brush your hair.

Step 6: As you start to brush your hair it may look a little frizzy but that's okay, brush to your desired effect. For this style I was brushing and altering for around five minutes.

Step 7: Eventually you should have your desired curls, you can brush for as long as you like - for example if you prefer a softer wave this would be achievable. To finish spray hairspray to keep your style intact for the day.

Past Examples :
Headscarf - this is a suitable way to keep your rollers intact and cosy for the night!

I hope some of you found this post helpful.

My Yellow Dress

Here is my second dress post of the week!
This Vintage Style dress is from http://www.msdressy.com/
I'm in love with how well this dress fits, it fits just as well as many of my 1940's & 1950's Dresses. I adore how it nips me in at the waist and flares out. I do feel like an utter Princess - almost slightly Belle like. The material is satiny soft for a glamorous feel - making this dress perfect for a prom or a delightful Christmas Party! You can pick this dress in a colour of your choice and custom made for a divine fit.

Looks just as pretty from the back with lovely embellishment.

The detailing makes this dress even more exquisite with beautiful deep yellow embellishment on the front and back.

Trying to smile off the very cold weather!

My inspiration for picking this dress was the beautiful darling Elizabeth Taylor, she makes yellow look divine!

I hope you enjoyed my post!

My Swinging Sixties Party Dress

Hello my loves!
It's getting closer to Christmas and time for parties. I love this time of year as there is always a reason to dress up - even more than usual in my case. On Saturday I went to my work Christmas Party and this year I really wanted to go for something different. The past two years both times I had worn black so this year I steered away and went for a pink number!
I'm so in love with the dress that I found and hope to find many more occasions to wear it, as I feel so wonderful when it's on.
Here are two photographs of me from that night -
I decided to go for bigger hair than usual to match the decade.
The dress is a 1960's Cocktail Dress from Prim Vintage Fashion in Norwich.
What makes this dress even more wonderful is that it has a cape!

I had some more photographs taken in daylight - Here you can see the wonderful cape.
 Beautiful detail.
A great delight about wearing Vintage is that no one else at your party will be wearing your dress and just the wonderful history that your dress holds. I always think of what the 60's Diva would have looked like in my dress and what occasion she wore it for!

If any of you have been celebrating at any Christmas parties and have been wearing some beautiful dresses then I would love to see!

Old Family Photographs

I love taking photographs to capture wonderful memories that I can look back on for many years to come. Recently I have been trying to take as many as I can just like my family used to, they even took pictures when they had a day out at the pub! This post has been inspired by a photograph that my Grandma recently saw, whilst she was watching a presentation on 'Famous Women of Ipswich'. As my Grandma was watching this a picture of her Mother came up, this was my Great Grandma Dorothy! I'm quite obsessed with seeing pictures of my Great Grandma because she looked so glamorous and beautiful, even as she got older she still looked immaculate to me - perfect hair and clothes. I thank her for my love of Vintage, she died when I was 4 but I have a great memory of her and now I get to learn even more about her with the photographs my family have kept.
Here is the photograph that my Grandma saw, it's in a book called 'Ipswich the War Years'. It was taken when my Great Grandma Dorothy was working in a factory called Ransomes Sims and Jefferies during World War Two. The work was very delicate and vital.I just find this image so fascinating that it's my Great Grandma!
Here are a couple more of my personal favorites of Dorothy.
This one was taken in the 1940's, I'm in love with the coat and shoes. Dorothy also naturally had wavy hair that you will see in the next two photographs below - hair that i'm very jealous of!
These next two are of both my Great Parents Harry and Dorothy. Harry was in the Navy during the war, as a person he was also immaculately dressed!
This one makes me smile immensely and a little teary eyed at times. On the back there are the most sweetest descriptions that my Great Grandad had written, he would call Dorothy his 'Dearest Dot' and would write how much he loved her.
This is my current Grandma Sylvia when she was in her teens, I love this dress too much. It was handmade and how I wish I could make something like this one day.

I hope you enjoyed this post! I would love to see some of your family favorites!
